Do Lichens and Mosses Drink From Tree Bark?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lichens and mosses often live on tree branches in the forest canopy. They store large amounts of rain, fog, or dew, because they cannot reach water soil. However, we do not know what their most important source actually is. For example, is uptake from wet bark important? This hard to answer, these lichens high above us, so it difficult make direct measurements. Computer mathematical simulations can be useful answer this question. We used a computer model calculate how much organisms may take up bark. found that supports about 20% growth per year, for survival. also are well adapted taking

Comparative use of lichens, mosses and tree bark to evaluate nitrogen deposition in Germany.

To compare three biomonitoring techniques for assessing nitrogen (N) pollution in Germany, 326 lichen, 153 moss and 187 bark samples were collected from 16 sites of the national N deposition monitoring network. The analysed ranges of N content of all investigated biomonitors (0.32%-4.69%) and the detected δ(15)N values (-15.2‰-1.5‰), made it possible to reveal species specific spatial patterns ...

Mosses, Epiphytic Lichens and Tree Bark as Biomonitors for Air Pollutants – Specifically for Heavy Metals in Regional Surveys

The thesis consists of regional forest condition studies, using different biomonitors. Heavy metal deposition was investigated in 1985–2000 on the basis of the heavy metal concentrations (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Ni, Pb, V, Zn) in mosses in Finland. A comparison on the suitability of mosses, epiphytic lichens and pine bark as biomonitors of heavy metals was also carried. Bark was also used to st...

Species of Lissothrips and Williamsiella from mosses and lichens in Australia and New Zealand (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae).

Species of Lissothrips and Williamsiella live in association with mosses and lichens. Their gut contents are commonly blue-green, suggesting that they possibly feed on blue-green algae. Three species of Lissothrips are known from New Zealand, of which two are here recorded from Australia together with six new species. Williamsiella is recorded from Australia for the first time, with one new spe...
